For love or money

Crafting is sometimes a “for love or money” paradox. Creating for the love of it, is sometimes the only thing we can do, as doing it for money often does not make fiscal sense.

Not long ago my mother and sister purchased a box of beautifully embellished greeting cards, at the ridiculously low price of $15. No doubt they were mass produced in some far away country, with questionable labor practices. It is impossible for the crafter who creates such cards, to compete with those prices, should profiting be an objective.

Originality and quality will be the only things that will allow many crafter’s to compete in this global market. Also needed, buyers who appreciate the unique work of an artist.
